The Club is affiliated to both the SAA and the BMFA National Aeromodelling Associations who look after the interests of model flyers in the UK and provide insurance for model flying.
The club members fly fixed wing power ( ic and electric), Gliders, FPV Racing Quads and even the odd helicopter.
Typical electric powered foam model of typical mass 2 to 3kg
About Fixed Wing
GAC members enjoy a great safe site and large flying area for fixed wing flying IC, electric, and powered gliders which are equally at home in the skies above GAC flying site. Fixed wing models are allowed to have up 25kg mass, but have a height limit of 400ft applied, unless increased under the CAA article 16 authorisation
All members of GAC must be SAA/BMFA members and hence under their article 16 are allowed to fly models up to 7kg without restriction and the GAC site has approval to fly models between 7kg and 25kg up to 1400ft.
About FPV Quad Racing
The large GAC site provider a great space for the members flying FPV racing drones which allows them to fly concurrently with the fixed wing due to the size of the GAC flying site The FPV members set up their course behind the fixed wing area which allows both FPV and fixed wing to operate together safely
FPV quads are small light and fast and those that fly them need to sit while flying as they view the models progress wind it way at speed through the racing course
The image shows a member with his FPV goggles on flying a drone through the course while remaining seated and another member preparing his drone
Deep consentration is required to quickly fly the Quad through the course
